Chance de Silva and Mike Nightingale have designed two eco-houses in an Oxfordshire village. It provides an example of sustainable rural infill, acknowledging the potential to increase the population of villages without recourse to suburban-edge housing estates.

The new houses are timber-framed and clad with heat pumps and solar panels. One house, has a biodiversity meadow flower roof terrace with walk-on rooflights. In the future, the aim is to bring the whole site to net zero in energy use.

The new homes were carefully sited to avoid the root spread of numerous mature trees. All the houses face onto a shared green space.
