A new Music Studio for chamber music teaching and practice. The interior has space for a grand piano and string quartet, and casual seating. It’s a free-standing studio, north-lit, clad in vertical timber fins with a zinc roof. It forms part of a larger project with ground floor extensions, remodelling of the existing house, and providing a room in the roof for visiting academics and musicians.
The glazed structures are angled to face into an enclosed garden space. The studio’s glazing, opened onto this space, allows it to become a ‘stage’ for occasional performances. The interior has sloping ply ceilings, and ply shelves for manuscript storage.
